ZANACO BRIEF PROFILE HISTORY Zambia National Commercial Bank Plc (ZANACO) was established in 1969 to serve the financial needs of the Zambian economy and it has since evolved into a leading Bank nationwide. In 2007, GRZ sold a 49% stake in the Bank to Rabo Development B.V a subsidiary of the Cooperative Central Raiffeisen-Boerenleen Bank (Rabobank) of Netherlands. Subsequently, Rabo Development sold a 3.41% stake to Lizara Investments Limited, a nominee of the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU), following the Bank’s initial public offering in 2008. The Bank remains majority-owned by Zambians and it thus considered “citizen owned”. The relationship Rabobank enables Zanaco to benefit from technical assistance and best practices in various areas of banking.
